Sept 14 meeting - the Who What and Where

Postby Sunny on Mon Sep 28, 2009 9:59 am

At the meeting on the 14th we covered details for Bracket Finals - now in the history books! I'm sure there will be a full report at the next DRAG meeting scheduled for OCTOBER 5th at the UNION HOTEL at 7:00 pm!

Other topics discussed:

Banquet - to be held at Borio's on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We have the room until 11:00 pm, but word has it that Ed Reilly's band may be making an appearance in the bar that evening.

Rick said that he has enough tires for the track drag for the next 5 years. Thanks for the donations, but please no more!

Ways of making the programs run faster and smoother on race days - especially as daylight decreases. At some point the persons in the back of the lanes may be guiding people into specific lanes, ie filling 5 and 6 on the tower side first, then 3 and 4, to avoid having lanes with fewer cars. After 2nd round, once there is a ladder, the first pair up should be directed to lane 6, the next to lane 5, etc., and the races be run in that order. Ladders are available at the back of the lanes after every round, if racers need to know who they are racing next.

A question was raised about the status of the Jr. races on rainout days - even though Jr's have gotten beyond first round, if the rest of the day is cancelled due to weather, those races do not count. Consensus was that either way someone suffers, but as long as the policy is clear and consistant, the Jr.'s will continue to abide by the same rule as the rest of us.

Congestion at the starting line is a continual problem, especially for street racers who try to drive around the water and for cars with several pit persons. Spectators seem to be a constant problem, with no clear answer.

Update on the timing system: Already raised - $3200.00 - Super job Mr. Parker! The further we get into this, the more there seems to be to it - a separate discussion with Roland is needed to identify what is already in place and what more will be needed to accomplish what we would like. Keep those donations coming - and thanks to those who have already contributed generously.

Full details at the next meeting - see you there!
